GemFriendz Interview

Name of your website?

GemFriendz

Your name?

Angela Cruz

Your Location (city, etc)

Highlands Ranch

Gemfriendz are adorable charms that are attached to clothing with a pin backing. Each charm holder has a ring so that you can easily switch your favorite charms.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I was inspired because when I was a kid I used to love pins. I wanted to make pins fun and include the cuteness of charms.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is my first website. It's only been up less than month.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I combined the name gem and friends. I used gems because gems represent something special to us and our friends are special.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

It is very unique in the fact that they easily attach to any part of your clothing with the pin backing. They are fun and perfect for girls.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My eventual goal is to manufacture the product and sell them. However, I'm also looking into organizing " awe inspiring girl parties." I'm a certified teacher and I'm looking to use my talents in the school within the community. I plan on setting up parties that build confidence in young girls about being business leaders.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Well, I've just started. It's been a success in watching the process blossom.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Better pictures. It is very difficult to take good pictures of small charms.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I believe so. I'm working with a manufacturing company.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Setting up a merchant account was difficult because I know customers love but until they start buying I'm paying for nothing.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Pictures and patience.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Face to face. I think everybody responds well to face to face interactions. Don't you?

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

There are a lot tech insights that I have learned along the way. I have a lot to learn.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

About a month. I hope to run it forever.

What inspires you?

Children inspire me. Children are naturally creative and I love to model that this is something we all should work to keep alive in our hearts. We should go for it. Why not?

What is your website address?
