Seven easy ways to look like a winner with your office decor

First impressions are everything right? Well here are seven ideas to help you stand out above the crowd. Decorating tips for your cubicle will help you enhance your professional image and let your company know you are ready to move up the ladder to the big corner office with a view!

• Use rich colors for your desk accessories and use them sparingly. Office cubicles are mainly white or at least a neutral shade. Use a rich burgundy leather desk blotter. You can find matching wood desk organizers or perhaps even a matching leather desk tray.

• Keep your clutter hidden in the desk. When you are working, you should only have in front of you the documents and tools necessary to complete ONLY the project you are working on.

• Don't display too many personal items. One family photo or a picture of your spouse is acceptable, but if you have lots of pictures...stow them in a photo album perhaps stored on a shelf of your desk organizer. Don't line your cubicle walls with pictures of you and your buddies out on the town in a less than stable condition.

• If you do not have any storage to keep your personal gear in for after work such as a locker, perhaps store your duffel bag under your desk of out sight. Don't have the floor cluttered for those walking by to view.

• Use a company logo or something company related for a screensaver instead of some other risky image. This will look very professional when a visitor to your company happens to stroll by your cubicle. Think of the alternative!

• Use a nice desk lamp with something besides a regular incandescent bulb. A warm lighting source will make you stand out from all the other cubicles and give you a nice feeling of peace while you work as well.

• When you attend a meeting away from your cubicle, always go prepared with a legal pad or even better yet a portfolio. Add a nice fountian pen and you are well on your way to the big office in the corner!
