It is an online gift store featuring Tasmanian gourmet food and wine hampers, pamper gifts for women, baby gift hampers. We use stunning gift wrap and stylish gift boxes to make a statement...this gift is special!
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Our business is based in Tasmania in Australia with a relatively low population and we wanted to showcase our first class range of gift hampers to the world so as anyone, anywhere can choose to experience our gift services.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
We launched our website mid 2006 and it is the same one as above, however we have made some minor modifications to the content on the site since then.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The site is named after our registered business 'Eventful Gifts & Hampers'. The definition in a dictionary of Eventful is: exciting and meaningful. We felt that this reflected our core business which was selling exciting and meaningful gifts and hampers. Plus some of our gift hampers contain multiple gift items to be used to create an event, such as a romantic and fun "naughty 'n nice" celebration for an anniversary or a night/weekend away.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The colours, pictures and text used differentiates us from other sites, and we have aimed to try and provide plenty of relevant information on each gift page relating to delivery times, costs and currency so as customers do not have to wait until check out to see postage costs or go hunting for it somewhere on the site.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Eventually it will be sold as part of the business.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Quite well, initially it was time consuming as I had little to no experience with websites, let alone an E Commerce site. Much easier now that I can understand website language and how it works.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Increase interactivity options for customers

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
No unexpected costs as had researched costs as part of the business plan.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been to learn website and computer language.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It hasn't really differed.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Site has been running for past 15 months, and we intend to continue to keep it as has enabled us to reach customers from all around the globe who have either ordered gifts to be sent outside of Australia, or relatives and friends who are overseas have been able to easily send gifts to their loved ones here in Australia.
What do you wish you had known or understood about websites before you designed your site?
I wish I had understood SEO. When we first designed our website I had no idea about SEO. Once our website had been live for a couple of months I found out about SEO, after a lot of research and reading it became clear to me that I needed to to a fairly big revision on the text content on our website, plus some other functions to optimise it for search engines, although this took a huge amount of time it was worth it.
